There are two main ways to help control your property tax bill: exemptions and protests. Exemptions, like the homestead or aged 65 and older exemptions, lower the tax-appraised value of eligible properties, thereby lowering the overall tax bill. Protests allow property owners to ensure they’re getting a fair valuation on their property taxes by challenging the county’s appraisal.
