Gill, Denson & Company Launches Property Tax Relief Program for Flood Victims
At Gill, Denson & Company, we’ve always believed in doing what’s right for our community. The recent floods across Central Texas have caused heartbreaking damage to homes, businesses, and properties—and we know many of our neighbors are facing enormous challenges. As part of our commitment to stand with those affected, we’re offering free disaster exemption preparation and filing services to help property owners reduce their property tax burden following flood damage.
What Is the Texas Disaster Exemption?
The Texas Property Tax Code offers a special exemption for properties that are at least 15% damaged by a declared disaster. The Temporary Exemption for Qualified Property Damaged by Disaster can result in a significant reduction in property taxes for the year the damage occurred.
Key details include:
- Eligibility: The property must be located in an area declared a disaster by the governor and have sustained at least 15% physical damage.
- Savings: The amount of the exemption is based on the level of damage, ranging from 15% to 100% of the property’s improvement value (all structures excluding land).
- Deadline: Property owners or their property tax agent must file the exemption form (Form 50-312) within 105 days (October 17, 2025) of the governor’s disaster declaration.
For those already dealing with insurance claims, repairs, and recovery, navigating property tax paperwork shouldn’t add to the burden. That’s where we step in.
